One of the biggest problems that our eco-system faces is linked to small things we do and own.Look at all the things that belong to you-toys,bags,water bottles,lunch-boxes,stationery,clock,etc.What is the most common material used in making most of these things? you're right,it's plastic!
Did u know that plastic is the used in making almost anything,right from these little things that you own to construction materials?This cheap,light and easily available material has over the years replaced wood,glass,metals and even cloth.You must have seen pencil boxes made of other materials like wood,cloth or light metals like aluminium,available in all shapes and sizes.Or schools bags are made of thick canvas and tiffin-boxes made of steel....but we almost always buy plastic.
As a matter of fact,the manufacture of plastic releases several times more pollutants into the atmosphere than the manufacture or recycling of glass.Some of the chemicals that are released into the atmosphere when plastic is produced include benzene and ethylene oxide,which are carcinogenic(cancer-causing).Unlike organic or natural substance,plastic could take up to thousands of years to decompose.It does not decompose by recycling or landfilling; on the contrary,every time it is recycled,its quality becomes poorer and it becomes more harmful.
the cheap plastic bags and bottles that we use daily are usually made out of recycled plastic,and they sometimes contain poisonous chemicals like lead,cadmium and mercury,which react with the items that we store in them,like food,juice or water.
So how do we help the situation? We can stop or limit our of plastic items.We can carry our cloth bags when we go shopping,and use items made out of wood,metals,cloth and glass-saying"NO!" to plastic.we can request shopkeepers to give us newspaper or cloth bags and ask our parents not to accept plastic bags with purchases daily,that makes at least 100 bags in ten days.Imagine the difference we will make in a month if we boycott plastic.So let's consider,educate and act!
